About Second opinion
1. What is a “second opinion?”
“Second opinion” means, “a patient has the privilege of requesting an examination and evaluation of a health condition by a second physician to verify or challenge the diagnosis or recommended treatment by a first physician or medical association.” In some cases, a “third opinion” is possible.
There are many reasons for which you may want to request a second opinion in Japan.:
1. No possible treatment.
2. Received prediction on remaining time to live.
3. Anxiety over the details of treatment.
4. Consultation provided no other means of treatment.
5. Consultation on the type of chemotherapy or radiation therapy being used.
While having similar feelings of anxiety as those reasons listed above, you feel there are no doctors or others to talk to.
In those cases too, we welcome you to come and ask questions.
Consultations for a second opinion at the Simonicini Cancer Center are a chance for patients to discuss their current diagnosis and treatment programs.
Therefore, those who wish to be treated with the Simoncini Protocol, patients should have their current treating physician write them a referral after they notify the physician of their desire to be treated at our clinic.
